Apple Vision Pro Gains YouTube App as Apple Faces Slowing VR Market Demand

Apple’s Vision Pro headset has officially gained support for YouTube, marking the arrival of one of the world’s most widely used video platforms on Apple’s spatial computing device. According to reporting published by TipRanks, the dedicated YouTube application is now available through the visionOS App Store, resolving one of the most notable omissions present when the $3,499 headset first launched in early 2024.

The YouTube app enables Vision Pro users to access standard video content alongside Shorts, immersive 3D formats, full 360-degree video, and VR180 experiences. In addition, the platform supports playback in resolutions of up to 8K when running on the Vision Pro equipped with Apple’s M5 processor. However, the application requires devices to operate on visionOS 26.0 or later in order to function properly.

The addition of YouTube represents an important expansion of the Vision Pro’s software ecosystem, addressing concerns raised by early users and industry observers regarding the availability of key applications. Despite the technological capabilities of the device, software limitations had been widely viewed as a barrier to broader adoption.

Apple has also attempted to resolve hardware-related concerns associated with the Vision Pro. Even Meta has reportedly reduced its digital marketing investment related to VR headsets over the past year, reflecting weaker-than-anticipated demand across the sector.

Market data cited by TipRanks, based on research from Counterpoint Research, indicates that the global VR headset market declined by 14% on a year-over-year basis. The contraction highlights ongoing structural barriers facing virtual reality hardware, including cost sensitivity, comfort limitations, and uncertain consumer use cases.
